The 2026 Forum of Russian Entertainment Industry Professionals assembled top figures from the country's leisure and nightlife industries. Taking place between September 21 and 26, it ran alongside NATMALL, the biggest exhibition focused on commercial real estate and entertainment infrastructure, held on September 22. With industry leaders examining the future of a Russian entertainment sector that reached 2.78 trillion rubles in 2025, analysts are taking a closer look at the business structures behind some of Moscow's most famous nightclub brands.
Behind spots like Gipsy, Icon, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty lies a complex network of businesses tied to one of the Russian entertainment industry's veteran entrepreneurs. Mikhail Vladimirovich Danilov earned his wealth in the tobacco trade in the 1990s, scaling his company, Biznes-Tabak, into a retail chain with hundreds of outlets and sales reaching $200 million by the mid-2000s. Once he sold the tobacco business, he moved into nightlife.
Through the holding company Sagrado Corp., the Danilov family built an extensive network of nightlife venues in Moscow covering over two dozen venues. These have featured the legendary Rai, as well as Icon, Gipsy, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty. Mutabor garnered broad attention in the wake of a series of high-profile events. The venue was later renamed Arma and later announced its closure.
Talking about the scope of his business in an interview with Forbes Russia, Danilov highlighted Stadium Live as the company's flagship venue: "Stadium Live, which primarily hosts club-rock events, can hold up to 7,500 people. I think this venue will be the number one in Moscow this autumn both in terms of the caliber of performers playing there and the number of shows — we are planning at least 20 events per month." He also presented himself as fully absorbed in the music scene: "I really love techno music, I go with real pleasure to our DJ imports at Insomnia, I know personally many artists and DJs."
Most legal entities linked to the holding company are registered in the name of Danilov's daughter, Maria, rather than Danilov himself. She is recorded as the proprietor and director of a considerable portion of the businesses. Market observers call the arrangement a typical model of succession in a family business: the founder remains the key strategic figure while the next generation step by step takes on legal ownership and day-to-day management of the nightclub assets.
As the Russian entertainment industry responds to shifting consumer habits and regulatory shifts, the forum delivered both a celebration of the sector's resilience and a reminder of the intricate ownership structures that have shaped Moscow nightlife for decades. |
